Engineering Technician

About the Role

We are looking for Engineering Technicians to join our Projects Team, supporting the design and delivery of a wide range of, planning, civil and structural engineering projects. This is a predominantly office-based role with a focus on technical drawing, project support, and documentation, working closely with engineers and project managers.

You’ll be involved in preparing high-quality CAD drawings, contributing to design development, and helping to keep projects on track from planning through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings, layouts and models using AutoCAD and other design tools.
• Support engineers in developing civil and structural designs across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
• Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, specifications and reports.
• Coordinate drawings and data with internal engineering teams to ensure consistency and buildability.
• Maintain drawing registers, document control, and contribute to project file management.
• Provide input to design meetings, checking drawings for accuracy and clarity.
• Liaise with the wider project team to meet deadlines and ensure client satisfaction.
• Follow company quality standards and assist with continuous improvement of technical templates and workflows.

 What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately to deadlines.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Organised, proactive, and confident working independently as well as in a team.

Desirable:

• A qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline (e.g. HNC/HND, BTEC, NVQ Level 3+).
• Previous use of AutoCAD (or similar) for producing detailed drawings.
• Experience working in a consultancy or construction environment.
• Familiarity with BIM or 3D modelling software (e.g. Revit, Civil 3D).
• Knowledge of UK building regulations and construction practices.
• Previous experience supporting project documentation and admin.

Graduate Engineering Technician

Graduate Engineering Technician Opportunity at PDC Engineering

We're excited to offer a unique trainee position as a Graduate Engineering Technician within the Compliance and Civils Projects Team at PDC Engineering. This role promises career advancement within a rapidly growing sector of our company, tailored to the evolving strengths of the successful candidate.

Job Overview:

The position combines both site and office work, with a roughly 50/50 split. It involves traveling and working alongside our existing team at renewables, waste, and composting sites throughout the UK.

Our team conducts evaluations of existing sites, assessing compliance with environmental standards set by local and national authorities, and produces reports and drawings detailing risk mitigation measures and design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drafting: Use AutoCAD software to draft drawings, either from site visits or to aid in planning applications and construction, including site layouts and detailed illustrations.
• Reporting: Write comprehensive reports describing site visit findings, compliance with government regulations and industry best practice. Focus on the anaerobic digestion, waste, and composting sectors. Recommend remedial actions based on these findings.
• Site Visits: Frequent site visits, at least once a week, within Norfolk and across the UK. Staying away from home is common, potentially for up to four nights in a week, in locations as distant as Cornwall or Edinburgh. Accommodation is provided alongside food allowance.
• Surveys: Conduct various surveys including topographical, utilities, drainage, ground penetrating radar (GPR), measured, drone, and visual assessments.
• Client Interaction: Regularly communicate with clients, whether in person, by phone, MS Teams calls, or email.
• Team Collaboration: Work as part of a tight-knit compliance sub-team within the projects team. Collaborate on projects within the team, the broader company, and with external clients.
• Ad-Hoc Assistance: Provide support within the team on diverse projects, assisting with drawing work or site visits as necessary.

This role is dynamic and will adapt as the employee flourishes at PDC Engineering. Comprehensive in-house training is provided, with additional external qualifications facilitated by the company when necessary. A degree is necessary for this role, although the not limited to Engineering.

• Punctual: Ensure timely arrivals for site jobs, which often demand early starts.
• Confident: Capable of liaising with clients, consultants, and authorities both on-site and in the office.
• Diligent: Prepared for extended workdays, managing substantial equipment in various weather conditions.
• Team Player: Collaborates seamlessly with colleagues of diverse skill sets.
• Flexible: Open to extended trips away from home, occasionally on short notice.
• Organised: Manages site visits, equipment, travel logistics, and ensures adherence to project timelines.
• Driving: While not required, the possession of a full UK driving license and/or ability to drive and is preferred for solo site visits or shared driving during long trips.

• Participate in site inspections, surveys, and project meetings as required.
• Ensure all work complies with current British Standards, Eurocodes, and Building Regulations.

About You

Essential:

• MEng or BEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics and design principles.
• Familiarity with design software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, AutoCAD, Revit).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
• Desire to work towards professional chartership (IStructE or ICE).

Desirable:

• Previous placement or internship experience within a structural or civil engineering consultancy.
• Knowledge of sustainability and low-carbon design principles.
• Full UK driving licence (advantageous, but not essential).
